Mahabalipuram lies on the Coromandel Coast which faces the Bay of Bengal. This is an elegant place to watch which a well established sea port was during the 7th and 10th centuries of the Pallava dynasty. This was the second capital of the Pallavas who ruled Kanchipuram. Formerly, mahabalipuram was known and called as Mahabalipuram. The former name of this place ‘Mahabalipuram’ has a history. A very rude cruel king Mahabali reined this place and in a fierce battle king Mahabali was killed by Lord Vishnu and the place was named after the dead, arrogant kind Mahabali.

Mahabalipuram was changed. It was renamed mahabalipuram which is called till now. There is a story behind. The name Mamallpuram king Narasimha Varman I was a great and valiant warrior. He was given the title Mamalla which means ‘the great wrestler’ so the name was converted from Mahabalipuram to mahabalipuram considering the great king and his achievements

The Armenian Church, Chennai, constructed in 1772, is one of the oldest churches of the Indian subcontinent. It is famous for its belfry of six. The Church, also called the Armenian Church of Virgin Mary, is located on the Armenian Street, Chennai, South India.
The six bells are all of different sizes, varying from 21 to 26 inches, and weigh around 150 kg each, They are believed to be the largest and heaviest bells of Chennai.

The Great Temple of Thanjavur much further south, in the Tamilnadu, the ancient city of Thanjavur, formerly Tanjore, occupies an eminent place. It was formerly the capital of the Chola dynasty, which held sway over the whole of southern India in the period 836 -1267. Here medieval Brahmanic architecture attained its culmination.
The great temple of Thanjavur was founded by Rajaraja I, a Chola king who reigned from 985 to 1014. This was a time of Chola expansion on all fronts. Having defeated their immediate neighbours, the Chola now advanced their sphere of influence as far as Bengal, while there were Chola possesions in Sri Lanka and out-posts in java
and Sumatra . Their trade network brought commerce with Burma and south-east Asia and reached as far as Indonesia. The Chola dynasty was the major economic and military power of the region.
Brihadeeswarar Temple - Thanjavur
Darasuram Airavateshwarar temple is a storehouse of art and architecture. The vimana is 85 feet high. The front mandapam itself is in the form of a huge chariot drawn by horses. The temple has some exquisite stone carvings. The main deity's consort Periya Nayaki Amman temple is situated adjacent to Airavateshwarar temple.
The Great Living Chola Temples. (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) at Thanjavur, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Darasuram were built by the Cholas between the 10th and 12th centuries CE and have a lot of similarities.
The earliest records of the temple mention the name of the town as Rajarajapuram. It is believed that this name might have been corrupted to Darasuram with the passage of time.
